Narrative premise The story takes place on the ESS Endurance, an old but still-serviceable deep-space vessel. Players assume the role of Keen, a junior engineer who would love to become a full-fledged “Rescue Officer.” The ship's medical A.I. has a standing protocol called “Code Pink”: when female members of the crew find themselves in embarrassing or hazardous situations— malfunctioning doors, jammed ventilation shafts, torn space suits— a rescue officer is dispatched.
